Current Establishment of Nursing Education Program
There are two forms of pre-service education in nursing; one is Diploma in Nursing and another is B. Sc. in Nursing. In addition to pre-service education, the scope of in-service (post-basic) education for building the capacity of nurses as nurse manager; nurse teacher; nurse administrator and nurse leader is available in 5 Colleges with 625 seats. These are College of Nursing, Mohakhali, Dhaka; Bogra Nursing College, Bogra; Fouzderhat Nursing College, Fouzderhat, Chittagong; and Khulna Nursing College, Khulna and Rajshahi Nursing College, Rajshahi. The scope for foreign students are (05 seats) available only in College of Nursing, Mohakhali, Dhaka.
About Diploma in Midwifery.
The 03(three) years course Diploma in Midwifery program was started in 2013 to improve the quality care of pregnant women and newborn and to reduce the maternal and infant mortality rate. The curriculum is formulated according to ICM standard.
The Diploma in Midwifery is an integral part of the strategic direction of the Bangladesh Government to increase the midwifery workforce and decrease maternal and infant mortality and morbidity in Bangladesh. Following the MDGs, the Government of Bangladesh has taken initiative to introduce professional Midwives in the health care delivery system as an integral part to the achievement of target of Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being for all) (SDGs) by 2030.
There are 41 Government Nursing Colleges and Institutes with 1050 seats are operational and providing 3-years Diploma in Midwifery course. There are 82 private colleges and institutes with 2970 seats operating in our country.
Eligibility for Admission :
Students having a Higher Secondary (10+2) from any group or equivalent degree passed in the last 02(Two) years (SSC passed in the year 2017 and 2018, HSC passed in the year 2019 and 2020) can apply for admission. He or she also has to score 6.00 in the two examinations cumulatively. The minimum score of separate examination (SSC and HSC) is 2.50.
Every expected candidate for admission, who wants to study in Government or Non Government organization, has to attend the admission test organized by “Director General of Nursing & Midwifery”. The government admission test is a mandatory prerequisite for any student willing to study either in Govt. or Non govt. organizations. Candidate scoring 40 or over marks are eligible for Non Government colleges and Institutions.
Seat reservation for Male Students:
According to the rule only female candidates are eligible to study in this course.
There is no scope for any male students.
